Shefali Shah is known as one of the finest actors but extremely under-rated. We last saw her in Neeraj Ghaywan’s short film, ‘Juice’. In the short film you can see how powerful an oppressed woman can look on screen and how a woman’s frustration must not be taken for granted.
The 46-year-old National Award-winning actor is not a commercial name in the business and she discusses why is it like that. The ‘Dil Dhadakne Do’ actress is not known for being very social but poss incessantly on Instagram. In a rare conversation with the actress revealed to the Indian Express more about the hurdles.
“Men in this industry are afforded more choices, regardless of age. For most part, Bollywood doesn’t know what to do with a woman who has crossed 40. Only recently are parts being written for women like me, in films such as Lipstick Under My Burkha (2016), Tumhari Sulu (2017) and Neeraj Ghaywan’s short film, Juice, which is one of the best roles I’ve ever played,” says Shah.
On Shefali’s new movie, ‘Once Again’, she said that “There are three main characters in the film, Tara, Amar and Bombay.” The movie premiered on Netflix on September 3, directed by Kanwal Sethi. Tara, played by Shefali starts a friendship with Amar, played by Neeraj Kabi via letters and a dabba. She further says, “I know that the parallel with The Lunchbox (2013) is inevitable, but this story goes beyond. In this, the two protagonists meet and explore what it is to fall in love again”.
The actor confesses that she is a “hardcore romantic” and she thinks that “the most powerful love stories are about unrequited love, because they bring out the longing that comes along with it.”
